HPC Data Management

An important part of using the cluster is managing your data. As a cluster user you have access to a dedicated storage area which is detailed on our storage page.

How do I get data on and off the cluster?

Getting your data to and from the cluster is an important part of using the cluster. There are various ways in which you are able to get your files on and off the cluster.

From a UEA managed Windows PC

If you are using Windows on a UEA managed computer, then you will most likely have an application called WinSCP installed. This freely available application will allow you to drag and drop files between your PC and the cluster, making it incredibly simple to use. Please see the following guide which details its use.

From a UEA managed Linux PC

There is a dedicated application which allows for easily transferring files to and from the cluster. Full details can be found from the following link.

If you wish to copy data directly from the terminal you could use the following as an example of how to do it:

scp -r workdir username@grace.uea.ac.uk:/gpfs/DEP/username

From a personal computer running Windows

We recommend that you use WinSCP which can be downloaded and installed free of charge. Please follow our guide if you require configuration guidance

Alternatively if you wish to use FileZilla as an alternative way to securely transfer data, please follow our guide.

From a personal computer running Mac OS X

We recommend that you use FileZilla to securely transfer files between your computer and the cluster. Please follow our guide for instructions.

Alternatively if you would like to copy directly from the terminal you can use the following as an example.
